I can't feed my son mainstream snacks and I can't pay for the nice brands, what is left to do? Make them myself! These are super healthy vegan cheese snacks! No dairy, no preservatives or artificial coloring and flavor, they are loaded with omega-3's and are very easy to make. I've had more today than Zaylen has, they are beyond addicting too.
Homemade Vegan Cheese Snacks
Ingredients-
1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour (I use King Arthur)
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
A dash of each; Pink Himalayan salt, pepper, and cinnamon
1/2 tablespoon flax powder
1 teaspoon chia seeds
1/4 cup organic coconut oil
1/2 cup of filtered water
Directions-
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
Mix the flour, yeast, seasonings, flax powder, and chia seeds together
Cut in the coconut oil
Slowly add the water a little at a time and mix together until dough forms
Place dough on a piece of parchment paper and spread out
(It's easy enough to spread with your hands)
Now cut the dough into the shapes you desire
If you want to use a small cookie cutter, feel free to spread the dough any way you want.
I used a pastry cutter to create small squares so I made my dough more into a rectangle
Pick up the parchment paper with the dough on it and place on a baking sheet
Put the sheet into the oven for 20 minutes
(This may vary depending on your oven)
Pull the tray out, pick up the parchment paper and place the crackers on a cooling rack
Once they are cool go ahead and dig in!
I promise it was as simple as it sounds. Making the dough takes all of 5 minutes and the baking part is short and sweet. I made two batches from start to finish in an hour. I looked at several recipes, combined a few things, took away others, and went through a few trial runs before I got the snack I envisioned. This is it!
I hope you enjoy them as much as Zaylen does!
