Zaylens First Christmas

I cannot believe Christmas is almost here, last Christmas just happened yesterday didn't it? Time sure does fly by. Zak and I are stoked that it is Zaylens first Christmas! This is my favorite time of the year and having a sweet baby to spoil makes it 100 times better! I know he will only be 9 months old in December and he will never remember the presents he receives this year, but the first Christmas is a huge deal and you better believe this Moma is going all out!! Okay, maybe not all out, but my son will be getting more than a box to play with. Zachary and I aren't huge fans of capitalism. We don't support a lot of big brands, and when we do it's pretty far and between. That said, the majority of Zaylens presents are coming from thrift shops and small family companies. Some things I do prefer him having new, but for the most part we are thrilled to treasure someone elses trash. With everyone in the blog world writing posts about what their little ones will receive this year, I thought I'd tag along and share our list for Zay with ya'll!

1. Build A Bear

Zachary and I want to make a special lovey for Zaylen this year. He is coming to an age where he needs that one stuffed animal to take to bed and carry around on all his vacations. This can't just be an ordinary teddy bear, it has to have meaning. What better way to make this happen than for Zak and I to hand craft a bear together and put our voices in the paws for Zaylen to always enjoy?

2. A toy box

We would love to find a nice wooden toy box, unfortunately we are having a hard time finding just that. We have come across several wooden ones, but they all need painting and fixing up or they have missing lids and screws. I just want to find one that is put together nicely. And I am not paying a high price, I have been searching Craiglist and thrift shops like it's my job...oh wait, that is my job :)

3. Activity table

My little stander needs an activity table. I found one that I absolutely love! I cannot remember the name of it, the brand, or even where I saw it, but I am determined to find it again soon. This will probably be one of his "new" things this year. It has several forms that will last him a few years and it's exactly what I'm looking.

4. Tableware

Re-Play is a brand I adore!! They make childrens tableware from recycled milk jugs, and it's all done right here in the United States. Made in our country from recycled products...it seriously does not get better than that. This harvest set has beautiful colors and I think I'm going to go ahead and order them right now while I'm browsing. I love online shopping.

5. Other odds and ins

I am on the lookout for other small things in consignment and thrift shops. I would love to find more wooden blocks, Zaylen loves chewing on them and knocking them down. I also want to find a toy that he can fit different shaped objects into, I heard these are excellent for 9 month olds. I'm sure I'll find a noise maker or a nice jacket, I'm always on the hunt for a good deal.

6. Last but certainly not least

Stockings are my favorite!! One of my most cherished gifts came from my stocking. We got a new stocking each year and decorated them however we wanted. Mom would always put nuts and fruit in them...we never understood that and they always sat untouched on the counter for a few weeks after, but the rest of the things in the stocking were always great. We would have movies, jewelry, makeup (we could count on having makeup and hairbows), and just fun girly things. Stockings were the first thing we opened when we all woke up and piled into the living room. I want those same memories for Zaylen. I haven't decided exactly what all will go into his stocking, but I know pappys will for sure be in there. Maybe socks and Hylands teething tablets will join those pacifiers. If Zaylen had a say so he would probably wish for electrical outlets and dog bowls. Thank God he can't have a say yet.

So there is Zaylens Christmas list. I'm hoping we can find everything for a good deal. I think we can make this a special Christmas without the usual "Christmas price." After all, we must remember the real reason for the season! I hope you all have an enjoyable shopping experience this year!

xoxo
